Thunder Valley Raceway Promoters Step Down
SALEM, Ind. - After a five-year stint at Thunder Valley Raceway, the husband and wife team of Steve and Misty Leonard have stepped away from promoting the dirt track situated on the Washington County Fairgrounds in Salem, Indiana.
The Leonard's made the announcement Sunday morning on the track's Facebook page.
"After much thought and consideration, Misty and I have decided to move on from running Thunder Valley Raceway. The last five years have been full of many ups-and-downs. The amount of amazing people we have met, friendships made, and where we started five years ago to now is incredible," posted Steve Leonard.
Over the course of five years, the Leonard's faced multiple flooding issues that required the facility to be rebuilt, all at their expense. Through that adversity, the duo still managed to grow the fan base through their weekly racing program, along with multiple visits from regional touring series.
The MARS Super Late Model Series made their first appearance at the facility in August 2019, paying $3,000 to-win for the Super Late Model division. Greg Johnson cruised to the win from his pole starting position. Super Late Models hadn't competed at Thunder Valley since 2005 prior to the MARS visit.
The 1/4-mile bullring also saw multiple appearances from Tony Stewart's All Star Circuit of Champions TQ Midgets, Indiana Pro Late Models, MMSA Mini Sprints, and others.
The search is now on for a new promoter to host racing events at the facility, which normally competes on Friday nights.
"If you know someone interested in taking the track over let us know."
